Writing

Across nearly two decades, I’ve written for clients ranging from small nonprofits to a giant of aviation. I love the variety and challenge of trying something new or of trying to get better at something done many times before.

Here’s some of my work:

  • In-depth pieces for the award-winning magazine of a nationally respected leadership center, for which I also write case studies used in custom training sessions.
  • News articles, profiles and other feature stories for a public medical school and a private university.
  • Newsletter articles for a county medical society and an advertising agency’s aviation clients.
  • Articles and owner profiles for a major aircraft manufacturer’s customer magazine. News releases and other writing for supplier of aviation services and aircraft parts.
  • Reports, brochures, flyers and other publications for nonprofits advocating healthy lifestyles and serving children and the visually impaired.
  • A series of informational handouts explaining the ins and outs of wind and other alternative energies aimed at local officials, property owners and others.
  • Coffee-table and other books requiring extensive planning, research and interviewing. Some of the books – mostly family and business histories – I designed as well.
  • CD reviews for magazines targeting parents and music fanatics as well.
  • Catalogue entries for a seller of sheet-metal tools, learning a lot about rivets in the process.

People have interesting stories and I love drawing those stories out of them, whether they’re a nervous college student, shy family matriarch or time-strapped and somewhat impatient doctor or business executive. Identifying the themes and anecdotes that tell the story is a challenge I enjoy. So is locating information – be it a medical study or a 1917 newspaper article – that supports or provides context.

I’m well-versed in weaving information together and telling a story that also highlights an organization’s mission or emphasizes a business’ priorities – without beating readers over the head with the “sell.”

Medicine, education and aviation are just a few areas of focus, but I can get up to speed on most any topic. And I can learn the lingo, so the article won’t be talking down to insiders or confusing stakeholders and customers who don’t know the trade talk.

Need some writing done? Let’s talk.
